Resources to Support You in
Pregnancy, Birth & Parenting
Community connections are vital for women and parents today. Without groups of like-minded folks, the childbearing year (and beyond!) can be lonely and isolating, especially if you've chosen to parent in a more baby & child-centered way. Here, I share sites and people I personally use and know and encourage you to explore as you create your own community.
If we know each other, please do not hesitate to email me & let's exchange links!
Birth Photography
Nova Bella Conte
619-398-5683
Nova and I have done several births together and not only is she an amazing postpartum doula, but also a fantastic birth photographer. Her photographs are seen throughout my site; the ones of the laboring and birthing families are even more exquisite than the ones you see here.
I can't recommend Nova enough.
Vickii has been a homebirth midwife for two decades accumulating an enormous amount of experience and knowledge. I would trust my own pregnant daughter with her. She's also has a Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine, coming highly recommended as an herbalist and acupuncturist for all aspects of women & children's health.
Do not hesitate to interview Vickii when you're looking for a safe and knowledgable midwife.
While Marla works with other midwives, I'm focusing on her because of her many years of experience in homebirth. Besides her meticulous midwifery skills, she is also fantastic with homeopathy if you are interested in this aspect of holistic healthcare. As with Vickii, I wouldn't hesitate to send my pregnant daughter to Marla.
Be sure to interview Marla as you search for a highly-qualified homebirth midwife.
Postpartum Doulas
Nova Bella Conte
619-398-5683
I personally know clients she has served and everyone has said she is exceptional in her role. One of the most service-oriented women I know, please do consider her when looking for a Postpartum Doula.
Hypnobirthing
Carol Yeh-Garner
858-837-1259
I've sent many couples to Carol and they've all had such great births, even if they weren't textbook perfect. Hypnobirthing's success speaks for itself!

Hypnobabies!
San Diego finally has a Hypnobabies course I can endorse!
Rachel Vence, of San Diego Hypnobabies, a childbirth educator for many years and a wonderful doula, is teaching one of very few Hypnobabies courses in our County.
Hypnobabies is very different from HypnoBirthing in that it is much more in-depth, teaching much more childbirth education as well as a variety of hypnosis states for all types of labors and births, from the very easy to the most complicated. And, take it from me (Barb), it is best to be prepared for all of birth's possibilities.
Rachel is also a Lactation Educator and has been a working, breastfeeding mom for several years, so is able to give moms great information to get started as well as to maintain the nursing relationship for however long mom (and baby!) decide.
I can't recommend Rachel enough!
